KPLFit (Knot Placement)
A software package developed by NPL that implements a number of knot placement strategies to help metrology users select a sensible set of knots to be used when representing experimental data by polynomial spline curves. The knots used to define a polynomial spline function generally have no physical meaning for the metrologist, and yet the effectiveness of a spline representation can depend critically on their number and positions. The software package acts as a pre-processor to NPLFit, providing as its output a set of knots that can be used as input to NPLFit.
